Best Cold Weather And Winter Tent Backpacking Tips You Should Know

Tents are usually used as residence by nomads, recreational campers, soldiers and disaster preys as well and involves the use of tents. Here we are going to discuss some Best Cold Weather And Winter Tent Backpacking Tips You Should Know if enjoy cold weather camping excursions or mountaineering.

The winter season has an outstanding attraction specifically when the snow falling season is set to be started. So, after a hectic summer routine, it may be that time of the year when you may feel like leaving all that behind and going somewhere to refresh yourself. The snow falling has an allurement for the general public, therefore, in that season a special winter tent is essential for camping if you are to consider going backpacking.

You can only enjoy the camping in winter season if your winter tent is fully equipped to provide you a better atmosphere as compared to the outside. The winter tent must have the potential to avoid the dust, chilling wind and extensive snowfall.

The destination for winter camping may be categorized in two ways. The first one is trekking and second one is travel through vehicles. In both types, the winter tent is totally different in size, style and weight. So, here we discuss the quality and weight of the winter tents in both categories.

Trekking:

Trekking is a very common and popular activity among the youth to explore the beauty of the nature. There are many beautiful places in the world where you can only go through trekking. In that case you have to carry such a tent which must be light in weight because if the tent is heavier then it’s difficult to reach the destination especially if your camping destination is going to be in mountainous region.

So, in the case of mountain trekking or mountaineering, there are two major points to keep in mind, first, you must choose a lightweight camping tent and secondly have the specification to endure the hardness of weather conditions.

So, if you are traveling alone then it’s easy to handle the winter tent during trekking because only a small size tent is to be required for your single use only. But if you are traveling along with your family especially with females then the size of the winter tent should not be exceeded from two persons. Because as the size increases the weight should also be increased due to which carrier of the tent will be exhausted soon. Therefore, whenever you travel along with your family or friends the above narrated point must be kept in mind.

Moreover, in winter season or snow covered mountainous areas there may be a lot of snow that will make it more difficult to assess the path. So, it’s recommended that you have a trekking pole to help you check the slow depth, hazards etc along your path. Through this method you can judge that there is a solid track under the snow and you can carry on your trekking.

Travel-through vehicles:

Winter Tent

There are many wonderful places in the world where we can reach directly using travel-through vehicles. A travel-through vehicle allows you the ability to easily carry your winter tent because tent weight in this case is not much of a hindrance.

You can carry a single tent big enough to accommodate three or four persons easily (instead of carrying multiple smaller size tents). But keep in mind, if the size of the winter tent is big, then the quality of the pillars of the tent must be of consistent to match both the weight and the wind pressure.

The tent should not be placed on the top of the hill or bottom of the hill because on top wind can affect the tent and in bottom of the hill cold level can increase. Moreover, if you have a carry van then you can also establish your tent on the back of the van and this kind of the tenting is much better than the tenting on the snow floor.

What should you look for in winter tent?

1. You should try to pick/find a lightweight tent.

2. The tent fabric or outer material should be water proof and able to resist the light and rain moderate as well.

3. The zipper of the tent should be covered with a waterproof cloth to avoid the leakage through zipper.

I will start with a confession: I don’t know about you but much as I enjoy trail hiking, camping, travel trips, wine tours etc – one thing that I ALWAYS think about is how my sleeping situation is going to be at the end of the day. I love to sleep comfortably and tend to obsess about this.

Whenever we think about the winter camping a fear of the cold haunts our mind. So, if you expect your camping trip to last more than one day, then we advise you to make sure you have a comfortable bed to sleep on.  This is because during any trip it is expected that we spend most of our time to exploring nature trails, soaking in scenic views, or engaged in any other of our many outdoor activities – which means that at the end of the day your body will badly exhausted. Therefore, at night, your sleeping environment should be better than the outside. Consequently, we adopt different techniques to warm up our body.

6. Using a Closed Cell Foam Camping Sleeping Pad will keep you warmer than the other way around.

7. Use the clay pot candle heaters in the winter tent to increase the temperature. Only use oxygen candles through the night because two candles do not use up too much oxygen.

8. You can also use a bulb to use the dry batteries for maintaining the temperature.

9. Use a sleeping bag which has two zips for easily using your arms without putting off the whole sleeping bag. Through which you can maintain the body temperature.

10. Wear a wool cap on your head and also cover your nose with some good quality face covers.

11. Bring a winter jacket into the sleeping bag and in morning you will get a warm jacket to wear.

12. It’s better to put a pair of wool hiking socks into your jacket when you go out because when you want to change your socks you will get a warm pair of socks. In this way you rapidly increase the temperature of your feet.

13. Use those small expendable foam ear defender plugs to avoid the wind noise.

14. In the morning, it’s essential to dry your sleeping bag to take it outside and shake it strongly. Put it in open air or under the sunlight for dry purpose.
